The Raviz Ashtamudi, now officially known as The Leela Ashtamudi, A Raviz Hotel, occupies a tranquil lakefront setting in Thevally, close to the centre of Kollam in Kerala. Built along the banks of Ashtamudi Lake, the resort combines traditional Kerala architecture, coconut-lined surroundings and panoramic backwater views with the practical accessibility of an urban destination. This balance makes it suitable for destination weddings, corporate conferences, leadership retreats and large social celebrations.
The property is located near Thevally Bridge on the Kollam–Elamballoor Road at Mathilil. It is approximately four kilometres from Kollam city centre, allowing guests to enjoy a peaceful backwater environment without being separated from hospitals, shops, transport services and other essential facilities. Event suppliers can also access the resort from Kollam without the long-distance transportation required for an isolated backwater property.
Kollam Junction Railway Station is approximately four kilometres from the resort and can generally be reached within ten to twenty minutes. It is one of southern Kerala’s important railway stations, with connections to Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai and several other destinations. Rail is often the most practical mode of travel for guests arriving from different parts of Kerala.
Wedding planners can organise scheduled transfers from Kollam Junction according to train arrival times. Cars may be assigned to senior family members, while vans and minibuses can collect larger groups. A hospitality representative at the station can assist guests with luggage, vehicle identification and hotel check-in information.
The Kollam KSRTC bus terminal and private bus facilities are also within convenient driving distance. Kollam has regular road connections with Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kayamkulam, Kottarakkara, Pathanamthitta and other towns. Local guests can reach the venue by bus or private vehicle, although dedicated transfers are preferable for residential weddings and corporate programmes with fixed reporting times.
Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is the nearest major airport and is approximately 70 to 75 kilometres from the resort. The hotel describes the journey as taking around 90 minutes, but event planners should normally allow between one and a half and two hours. Traffic, road construction, monsoon conditions and peak-hour movement through Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam can influence the duration.
The airport has domestic and international connectivity, including services to several Gulf destinations. This is particularly valuable for Kerala weddings involving expatriate families. An airport hospitality desk, flight-wise guest manifest, vehicle coordinator and luggage-tagging system can make group arrivals considerably more efficient.
Cochin International Airport is approximately 165 kilometres away and generally requires around four hours by road. It can be used when guests have better flight options to Kochi, but the transfer is substantially longer. Guests arriving through Kochi may also travel by train from Aluva or Ernakulam to Kollam, depending on their luggage and schedule.
The property is accessible by road through National Highway 66. Guests travelling from Thiruvananthapuram approach through Paravur, Kottiyam and Kollam, while those coming from Kochi use the coastal corridor through Alappuzha and Kayamkulam. Visitors from central Travancore can approach through Kottarakkara and the Kollam road network.
Vendor logistics require a separate plan from guest transportation. Décor structures, sound systems, LED screens, generators, furniture and flowers should enter through approved service routes. Large production vehicles need predetermined unloading and parking areas, particularly when multiple functions are being installed at the Convention Centre, Poolside or Helipad.
Ashtamudi Lake also introduces the possibility of ceremonial boat arrivals and curated backwater experiences. Selected guests or the wedding couple can arrive by boat, subject to the resort’s operational approval, weather conditions and water-safety requirements. The Raviz Floating Fort and Mahayana Houseboat can be incorporated into private celebrations, cruises and hospitality programmes.
The destination offers several guest experiences beyond the event itself. Munroe Island, Sambranikodi, Thangassery Lighthouse, Kollam Beach, Thirumullavaram Beach and Jatayu Earth’s Center can be included in a multi-day itinerary. Houseboat cruises, speedboat rides, sunset experiences and village tours help transform a wedding or conference into a complete Kerala backwater programme.
Outdoor events are most comfortable between October and March. The monsoon can bring heavy rain, strong wind and changes in lake conditions, while summer functions require shade, hydration and suitable timings. All lakeside functions should have protected electrical connections, secured structures and an indoor contingency.
Waterfront safety is another important consideration. Temporary stages, mandaps, children’s areas and guest seating should maintain an appropriate distance from the lake. Adequate lighting, barricading and trained personnel are necessary for evening functions. Boat movements should be handled only by authorised crews with life-saving equipment.
Red Carpet Events can coordinate airport and railway hospitality, group transportation, rooming lists, vendor movement, backwater activities, boat arrivals and local sightseeing. The property’s proximity to Kollam Junction and city infrastructure makes it one of Kerala’s more accessible backwater venues, while its lakefront setting retains the atmosphere of a secluded destination.
